I'm at University studying the audiences of Shakespeare's day. People who considered themselves 'respectable' - in other words have reputations and some money or property to pass on to their children were different in those days. Their marriages were arranged and so were their children's. People tended to get married in their mid-twenties. There must have been quite a different response to the play from Shakespeare's first audiences!

i think that hte tragedy could've been avoided. Romeo and Juliet died because of there parents. they could've let the kids make there own choices and they could've benn living at the en of the play. just because the famlies hate each other doesn't mean the parents have to punish the kids for makin there own mistakes.

I think that tragedy could have easily been avoided. Even though Shakespeare cleverly states that Romeo and Juliet's love is to end in a horrific death, this fate does not have to take place, for example, Juliet should not have trusted the Friar with his plan for her to take the poison, because Romeo did not get the letter that the friar sent to him, therefore she should't have trusted him. If she had gone to Mantua where Romeo had been exiled to, then they could have run away from their families to live together. Just becasue something like death is said to be fate, doesn't mean it has to take place. They could have made their own choices to lead their own lives together witout antone else.
